1974 Corvette T-Top Coupe- Bright Yellow, Black standard interior Body Off Frame 6 year Restoration Numbers Matching 350 Cubic Inch - 4 speed
One of the first questions asked by potential buyers is originally, and what is not correct for the 1974 model. Here's a list, of which most everything can be easily returned to original if that's desired:
First and most obvious are the Crager Mag Wheels. Included in the sale are the original wheels which have not been restored. Also included are high quality Rally caps and beauty rings purchased from Corvette Central. That was my original plan, but decided on the Cragers instead, as they were always one of my favorites. Several engine compartment items: valve covers and air cleaner and some trim items. These dress up items were changed to my own liking but all the original items are included in this sale, including the chrome ignition shielding which can be seen in some of the engine pictures when it was on the engine stand. The air pump and it's lines are not included, as they were removed prior to my purchase of the car. It's quite rare to see the air pump on these cars anymore. The stereo and CD player, including a DIN type new gauge and radio bezel were purchased as a unit from Ecklers. This high end Kenwood Stereo/CD is really outstanding. It plays MP3's, AM/FM, etc, looks great, and even has a front side 1/8th input jack for your Ipod. The original radio and bezel are included, but quite honestly, the original radio is a piece of junk. The antenna is a power antenna from Corvette Central. It is controlled by the stereo, works great, but is not original. Replacement whip antennas are readily available, and very inexpensive. The front springs are from stock, which allows a slightly lower stance. The rear suspension is stock and was adjustable as originally built, so it was also slightly lowered to look right with the front of the car. That's about it as far as non stock items!
Most everything on this car was replaced with new parts or restored to new condition. The following is a list of many major items, but is not necessarily all inclusive of every item.
Windshield - Brand new, professionally installed. Door Windows - Right side is brand new, as I broke it during removal. The left side door glass was in perfect condition, so it was not replaced. The rear window was also reused. Entire exhaust system from engine to exhaust tips were replaced with a new quality system. The mufflers are Magnaflows, and sound great, just a bit louder than stock but a great muscle car sound. The interior is mostly new. The seats and door panels had been re-done shortly before I purchased the car, so they were reused. They are in excellent condition. The front carpets were replaced with new and the storage frame and carpet covers was replaced including the new frame. The carpet from there back was in great shape, so it was reused. Trailing arms, rotors, O-ring brake calipers, brake pads, brake backing plates, all wheel bearings, etc., were replaced with new. Engine - everything in the engine was replaced with new high quality components after all the machine work was done professionally. The cylinders were bored .060 over and the new cam has approximately the same specs as the L-82 engine of the same year. Transmission - all bearings and sychos were replaced with new components, plus second gear was replaced due to a small chip in one of the gear teeth. All 8 body mounts were replaced with new and the two rear body mount brackets were replaced, see pictures. The Air conditioning condenser is brand new and installed. The evaporator was boiled out, pressure tested, and reinstalled along with a new heater core and all new hoses. The a/c compressor is brand new but has not yet been installed. It is one of the final items on my check list to complete. The high pressure hoses and lines for the a/c are also new, and need to be installed when the new compressor is installed. The VIR assembly is also new and needs to be installed at the same time. The A/C/Heater motor is new. The heater works very well and heats the car up quickly The Speedometer is a brand NOS part I found at a swap meet, and of course has been reinstalled with the rest of the dash components. It shows about 8 miles. The clock is a new replacement quartz clock that looks identical to the original and works perfectly. The remaining gauges were reused. The top dash panel is new, and looks perfect. The originals were almost all cracked around the speaker grilles. The clutch, pressure place, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing are all new. The flywheel was resurfaced by the machine shop. The clutch operation is smooth and chatter free! Most all of the door opening mechanism parts were replaced. The exception would be the regulator and door latches, which were repaired where needed, lubricated, and then reinstalled after the paint was completed. All lights, included tail, brake/backup, side markers and headlights were replaced with new genuine GM parts. The Positraction was disassembled, a few minor parts replaced , resealed and reinstalled. This unit, prior to starting the restoration, was smooth and quiet, so not too much was done. I'm fairly certain that this whole unit was rebuild sometime in its earlier history, as there is a small weld on the bottom of the case which can be seen in one of the pictures. Both front and rear bumper covers were replace with new Tru-Flex fiberglass. Tru-Flex makes a great product and does away with the annoying waves as the original Urethane covers did. All exterior trim items, mirror, door openers, front medallion, Stingray emblems, etc. were replaced with new. Tires are new and are the original replacement size. All weather stripping from head to toe - all new, T-tops included!
My estimated cost numbers from start to finish, in a brief summary, are as follows:
Purchase - about 9k plus shipping Engine Resto - about 4k, including machine shop and parts. Trany Resto - about $1,250 Positraction, brakes, suspension - about 3k Paint - 12k plus Wheels and Tires - about $1,200 Interior and Dash - about 2k All other - there's no way I can even estimate it. Hundreds of bolts, nuts, fasteners, etc., etc. I have receipts at Corvette Central, Ecklers, Corvette Brakes, etc., for over 14k Labor - about 20,000 hours, actually I have no idea. I've spent 6 years doing this! I've been collecting and restoring cars for 40 years. If you'd like to see some of my present and past craziness in cars, you are welcome to visit my website at www.oxley.biz. My website will show you what I've been doing in cars since I was less than 20 years old. It's been a life long passion. It's been rewarding at times, and frustrating at times, but all in all, I've loved every minute of it.
I hope you enjoy reading and viewing the information on this fine car. I'll try to answer all questions, and/or you can also email me directly with your questions at sonnybell2@comcast.net
